2 Fatalities in Garbage Truck Crash
On August 23rd, two Jacksonville, Florida men were killed in a fatal crash with a garbage truck. The two victims were riding together in a Kia Sedona SUV when a garbage truck attempting to turn left from the right hand lane cut in front of the SUV, killing both men inside.
Based on Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reports, the driver of a Mack sanitation truck turned into the paved median. 47-year-old Al Law claimed he didn’t see the Kia in the left-hand southbound lane. The Kia collided with the garbage truck and overturned. The accident report listed Wade Jenkins, 33, and Eric Acy, both of Jacksonville, as dead on the scene of the accident. Responding firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to pry the accident victims free from the wreckage.
Acy was not injured in the crash. Authorities did not specify whether a citation was issued against him, but did state that charges against Acy were pending. Further investigation is required.
At the crash scene, a woman arrived claiming to be the owner of the wrecked Kia SUV. The woman told news reporters on the scene that she was Jenkins’ fiancé, the man who was driving. She also revealed to reporters that it was Jenkins’ birthday and he had been returning home with a friend from another friend’s house. The woman stated that Jenkins was also the expecting father of her unborn child.
